Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and use basic French vocabulary related to sweets and chocolate.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • Coloring materials
  • Printed pictures of different sweets and chocolates
  • Access to a French-English dictionary (optional)

No prior knowledge of French is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Begin by showing the printed pictures of different sweets and chocolates to the student. Ask them to name the items in English.
  2. Introduce the French names for each sweet or chocolate. Pronounce each word slowly and clearly, encouraging the student to repeat after you.
  3. Provide a coloring activity where the student can color the pictures of sweets and chocolates while labeling them with their French names.
  4. Play a memory game by placing the pictures face down on a table. Take turns flipping two cards at a time, trying to find matching pairs of sweets or chocolates. When a pair is found, say the French name of the item.
  5. Encourage the student to practice saying the French names of sweets and chocolates throughout the day, especially when they encounter them in real life or in books.
