Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to read and comprehend a short story, while also engaging in a crafting activity related to the story.
Materials and Prep
- A short story book
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons
Before starting the lesson, make sure the student is familiar with basic reading skills such as letter recognition and basic phonics.
Activities
- Read the short story together: Choose a short story that interests the student and read it aloud. Encourage the student to follow along and ask questions if needed.
- Discuss the story: After reading, engage the student in a discussion about the story. Ask questions like "What was your favorite part of the story?" or "Why do you think the main character made that decision?" This will help develop comprehension skills.
- Crafting activity: Based on the story, have the student create a craft related to the theme or characters. For example, if the story is about animals, they can create animal masks using construction paper, scissors, and glue.
- Reflect and share: Once the craft is completed, have the student reflect on their creation and share it with others. Encourage them to explain how their craft relates to the story and why they made certain choices.
