By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to explore and play with a torchlight, while developing their fine motor skills and creativity.

  • Torchlight
  • Safe and open play area

No additional preparation required.

Activities

  • 1. Play with Shadows: Turn off the lights in a safe and open play area. Give the toddler the torchlight and encourage them to shine it on different objects or surfaces to create shadows. Help them experiment with different shapes and sizes of shadows.
  • 2. Light Drawing: Provide a dark surface, such as a large piece of paper or a wall. Instruct the toddler to use the torchlight like a pen and draw shapes or lines with the light. Encourage them to be creative and explore different patterns and movements.
  • 3. Storytelling with Light: Dim the lights and create a cozy atmosphere. Use the torchlight to narrate a simple story or make up a story together. Guide the toddler to use the light to highlight different elements of the story or characters.
