Activities

Start by showing the student a map of the United States. Ask them to identify the shape of the country and the location of different states.

Read the book about the United States together. Encourage the student to ask questions and discuss interesting facts they learn.

Prepare index cards with the names of different states written on them. Cut them into individual cards.

Ask the student to pick a card and read the name of the state. Then, have them locate the state on the map and color it in with markers or colored pencils.

Repeat the previous step with different states until the student feels comfortable identifying and locating them on the map.
