Before starting the lesson, make sure the student has a basic understanding of reading and can read at a third-grade level.
Activities
- Read the book or article about veterinary science together.
- Ask comprehension questions.
- Create a vocabulary list.
- Write a summary.
Take turns reading aloud or read together, discussing any unfamiliar words or concepts.
After reading, ask the student questions about what they just read to check their understanding. Encourage them to provide detailed answers and support their responses with evidence from the text.
Have the student write down any new or interesting words they encountered while reading. Discuss the meaning of these words and encourage the student to use them in sentences.
Ask the student to write a short summary of what they learned from the reading. Remind them to include the main ideas and key details.
