Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and identify words related to water, and understand their meanings.

Materials and Prep

  • Water-themed picture book
  • Whiteboard or large paper
  • Markers or crayons

Before starting the lesson, review the water-themed picture book to familiarize yourself with the content.

Activities

  1. Read the water-themed picture book aloud to the student, emphasizing words related to water such as "ocean," "river," "lake," and "rain."
  2. After reading, ask the student to name and draw their favorite water-related word on the whiteboard or large paper.
  3. Encourage the student to describe their drawing and explain why they chose that word.
  4. Play a game of "I Spy" using water-related words. Take turns describing an object or feature related to water, and have the student guess the word.

  • "Water is all around us! Can you say 'water'?"
  • "What are some things you know that are related to water?"
  • "The ocean is a big body of water. Can you say 'ocean'?"
  • "When it rains, water falls from the sky. Can you say 'rain'?"

  • "A lake is a large body of water surrounded by land. Can you say 'lake'?"
  • "Water is important for plants, animals, and people. We need water to drink and stay healthy. Can you say 'healthy'?"
