Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify key details in a text about horses and demonstrate comprehension by answering questions.
Materials and Prep
- Pencil or pen
- Blank paper or notebook
- Access to a computer or library with books about horses
Activities
- Start by discussing the student's interest in horses. Ask them questions about what they already know and what they would like to learn about horses.
- Using the computer or library resources, find a non-fiction book or article about horses. Read it together or have the student read it independently.
- After reading, ask the student to write down three key details or facts they learned about horses from the text.
- Next, have the student write three questions about horses based on the information they read. Encourage them to think critically and come up with questions that require more than a simple yes or no answer.
- Discuss the answers to the questions together, allowing the student to share their thoughts and reasoning.
- As a final activity, have the student create a drawing or write a short story about horses, incorporating the new knowledge they gained from the text.
