Objective

The objective of this lesson is for the student to improve their reading skills while engaging with their interest in Barbies.

Materials and Prep

  • Barbie books (or any books featuring Barbie)
  • Paper and crayons

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student has a basic understanding of letter sounds and can recognize some sight words.

Activities

  1. Barbie Book Hunt: Ask the student to find Barbie books from their collection or from the library. Encourage them to choose books with colorful illustrations.

  2. Read Aloud: Select one Barbie book and read it aloud to the student. Pause occasionally to ask questions about the story or characters.

  3. Story Retelling: After reading the book, ask the student to retell the story in their own words. Encourage them to use descriptive language and recall key events.

  4. Draw and Write: Provide the student with paper and crayons. Ask them to choose a favorite scene from the book and draw a picture of it. Then, assist them in writing a sentence or two describing the scene.

  5. Story Sequencing: Print out or draw pictures representing different events from the book. Mix them up and ask the student to arrange them in the correct order. Discuss why the events happen in that particular sequence.

  • "Now, let's draw a picture of your favorite part of the story. Don't forget to use colors and details!"
