Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and use basic English grammar related to cars.
Materials and Prep
- Toy cars
- Flashcards with car-related words
- Whiteboard or paper and markers
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduction: Show the toddler different toy cars and ask them to name the colors and shapes of each car.
- Car Word Match: Lay out the flashcards with car-related words (e.g., car, wheel, engine) and ask the toddler to match each word to the corresponding toy car.
- Grammar Race: Write simple sentences on the whiteboard or paper using car-related words. For example, "The blue car is fast." Ask the toddler to identify the subject, verb, and object in each sentence.
- Car Story: Encourage the toddler to create a short story using the toy cars and the grammar concepts learned. They can use the cars to act out the story while you write down their sentences.
Toddler Grade Talking Points
- "Cars come in different colors and shapes. Can you name some colors and shapes of the toy cars we have?"
- "Let's match the car-related words to the toy cars. Can you find the word 'wheel' and show me which car it belongs to?"
- "In the sentence 'The blue car is fast,' what is the subject? That's right, it's 'the blue car.'"
- "Now, what is the verb in the sentence? Yes, it's 'is.'"
- "And what is the object? Correct, it's 'fast.'"
- "Great job! Now, let's create a story using the toy cars. You can tell me what happens, and I'll write down the sentences."
