Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to appreciate and analyze the artistic elements and design principles found in cars, and understand the connection between visual arts and automotive design.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • Access to the internet or books about cars
  • Optional: Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, etc.)

Activities

  1. Research and Analysis: Instruct the student to choose a specific car model that they find visually appealing. Have them research the history, design features, and any notable artists or designers involved in its creation. Encourage them to take notes on the specific artistic elements and design principles they observe.
  2. Visual Representation: Ask the student to create a visual representation of the chosen car model using their preferred art supplies. They can focus on capturing the car's unique design features, colors, and overall aesthetic. Remind them to pay attention to proportions, shapes, and lines.
  3. Artistic Reflection: After completing their artwork, have the student reflect on their creative process. Ask them to write a short paragraph discussing how they incorporated the artistic elements and design principles they observed during their research.
