Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to appreciate and understand the beauty and significance of the Norwegian fjords through visual arts.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper or sketchbook
  • Pencils, colored pencils, or markers
  • Access to the internet or books about the Norwegian fjords

Prior knowledge of basic drawing techniques and an understanding of the concept of landscapes would be helpful.

Activities

  1. Research and Exploration:

    Encourage the student to research and explore images and information about the Norwegian fjords. They can use the internet or books to gather inspiration and learn about the geography, culture, and significance of the fjords.

  2. Sketching the Fjords:

    Ask the student to choose their favorite image or scene of the Norwegian fjords and create a sketch of it. They should focus on capturing the grandeur and unique features of the fjords, such as steep cliffs, waterfalls, and vibrant vegetation.

  3. Adding Color:

    Once the sketch is complete, encourage the student to add color using colored pencils or markers. They can experiment with different color palettes to evoke the mood and atmosphere of the fjords.

  4. Reflection and Discussion:

    Have a discussion with the student about their artwork. Ask them to explain their artistic choices and what they find most captivating about the Norwegian fjords. Encourage them to reflect on the cultural and natural significance of the fjords.
