Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and create simple patterns using autumn-themed objects.
Materials and Prep
- Autumn-themed objects (leaves, acorns, pinecones, etc.)
- Blank paper or a whiteboard
- Markers or crayons
Activities
-
Pattern Hunt
Take a walk outside and collect different autumn-themed objects. Look for objects that have repeating patterns, such as leaves with alternating colors or pinecones with overlapping scales.
-
Create Your Own Pattern
Using the objects you collected, arrange them in a pattern on a flat surface. Start with a simple AB pattern (e.g., leaf, acorn, leaf, acorn) and encourage the student to continue the pattern by adding more objects.
-
Pattern Drawing
Give the student a blank piece of paper or a whiteboard. Ask them to draw a pattern using autumn-themed objects. They can use the objects they collected or simply draw them. Encourage them to share their pattern with you.
