Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Start by brainstorming Halloween-related words, such as costumes, pumpkins, ghosts, witches, etc. Write down as many words as you can think of in five minutes.
  2. Character Creation: Select one word from your brainstorming list and create a Halloween character based on that word. Describe the character's appearance, personality, and any special powers or abilities they may have.
  3. Setting Description: Choose a spooky location for your story, such as a haunted house, a graveyard, or a dark forest. Write a detailed description of the setting, using sensory language to engage the reader's imagination.
  4. Plot Development: Think about an exciting Halloween adventure your character could go on. Write a brief outline of the main events in your story, including a problem or conflict that your character will face.
  5. Writing the Story: Using your character, setting, and plot outline, start writing your Halloween story. Remember to include descriptive language, dialogue, and suspense to make it engaging for your readers.
  6. Editing and Revising: Once you have finished writing your story, take some time to read through it and make any necessary changes or improvements. Check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
  7. Sharing and Feedback: Share your story with a family member or friend. Ask them for feedback and suggestions on how to make your story even better.
