Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic concepts to solve problems related to Minecraft.
Materials and Prep
- Minecraft game
- Paper and pencil
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Activity 1: Counting Blocks
Launch Minecraft and enter a creative mode world. Choose a specific area and count the number of blocks in that area. Write down the count on your paper.
-
Activity 2: Addition and Subtraction
Select two different areas in your Minecraft world and count the blocks in each area. Add the two counts together and write down the total. Then, subtract the count of one area from the count of the other area and write down the difference.
-
Activity 3: Multiplication and Division
Choose a specific structure in your Minecraft world, such as a house or a tower. Count the number of blocks used to build that structure. Multiply the count by a specific number (e.g., 5) and write down the result. Then, divide the count by another specific number (e.g., 2) and write down the quotient.
Seventh Grade Talking Points
