By the end of this lesson, the Eighth grade-level homeschool student will be able to evaluate the impact on wellbeing of relationships and valuing diversity.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Access to online resources or books on relationships and diversity

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Reflecting on Relationships

Ask the student to think about the different relationships they have in their life, such as family, friends, classmates, and teachers. Have them write down the positive and negative impacts these relationships have on their wellbeing. Encourage them to think about how these relationships contribute to their overall happiness and sense of belonging.

  2. Activity 2: Exploring Diversity

Guide the student to research and explore different aspects of diversity, such as cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity. Have them create a list of at least five diverse groups or communities they are interested in learning more about. Encourage them to think about the benefits and challenges of diversity and how it can contribute to a person's wellbeing.

  3. Activity 3: Personal Reflection

Ask the student to reflect on their own attitudes and beliefs towards diversity. Have them write a short essay or create a visual representation (e.g., drawing, collage) expressing their thoughts and feelings about valuing diversity. Encourage them to consider how their own perspective can impact their relationships and overall wellbeing.
