Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and name different HotWheels cars in French, and use basic French phrases related to cars.

Materials and Prep

  • HotWheels cars
  • Printed pictures of HotWheels cars
  • Whiteboard or large paper
  • Markers or crayons

No prior knowledge of French is necessary for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Show the student a HotWheels car and say its name in French. Repeat this with a few different cars, encouraging the student to repeat the words after you.
  2. Display the printed pictures of HotWheels cars and ask the student to match each car to its corresponding French name. This can be done by drawing lines or placing the cars next to the correct names on the whiteboard or large paper.
  3. Play a game of "I Spy" using the HotWheels cars. Say a description in French, such as "Je vois une voiture rouge" (I see a red car), and have the student identify the correct car.
  4. Teach the student some useful phrases related to cars in French, such as "Je conduis une voiture" (I drive a car) or "La voiture est rapide" (The car is fast). Practice saying these phrases together.

Preschool Grade Talking Points

  • "Les voitures HotWheels sont très amusantes!" (HotWheels cars are very fun!)
  • "Regarde cette voiture rouge. Comment dit-on 'red' en français?" (Look at this red car. How do we say 'red' in French?)
  • "Pouvez-vous trouver la voiture qui s'appelle 'camion'?" (Can you find the car called 'truck'?)
  • "Maintenant, nous allons jouer à 'Je vois'. Écoutez bien et trouvez la bonne voiture!" (Now we are going to play 'I Spy'. Listen carefully and find the right car!)
  • "Répétez après moi: 'Je conduis une voiture'." (Repeat after me: 'I drive a car'.)
  • "Quelle est votre voiture préférée? Dites-moi son nom en français!" (What is your favorite car? Tell me its name in French!)
