Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and describe different types of horses and their characteristics.

Materials and Prep

  • Pictures or toy horses
  • Whiteboard or paper and markers
  • Books about horses

Activities

  1. Start by showing the student pictures or toy horses. Ask them to describe what they see and what they know about horses. Encourage them to use descriptive words and ask questions about the horses.

  2. Read a book about horses together. Pause at each page to ask the student questions about the story, the characters, and the horses. Encourage them to make predictions about what might happen next.

  3. On the whiteboard or paper, draw a simple outline of a horse. Ask the student to help you label different parts of the horse, such as the head, mane, tail, and hooves. Discuss the purpose of each body part.

  4. Using the pictures or toy horses, ask the student to sort them based on their characteristics. For example, they can sort them by color, size, or type of horse (e.g., wild horses, farm horses, racing horses).
