Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to understand basic arithmetic concepts and apply them in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
- Counting objects (e.g., blocks, toys, buttons)
- Flashcards with numbers
- Whiteboard or paper and markers
- A computer or tablet with internet access
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Counting Fun: Use the counting objects to practice counting from 1 to 10. Encourage the toddler to touch each object as they count.
-
Addition Adventure: Show the flashcards with numbers and ask the toddler to find objects that correspond to each number. For example, if the flashcard shows the number 3, the toddler can find 3 blocks. Then, have them combine two sets of objects and count the total. For instance, if they have 2 blocks and 3 buttons, they can count a total of 5 objects.
-
Subtraction Story: Using the flashcards, demonstrate subtraction by starting with a set of objects and removing some. For instance, if there are 4 blocks, remove 2 blocks and ask the toddler how many are left. Repeat with different numbers.
-
Online Math Game: Use a computer or tablet to play a simple online math game designed for toddlers. Choose a game that focuses on counting, addition, or subtraction. Make it a fun and interactive experience!
Toddler Grade Talking Points
