Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the importance of gardening for health and learn how to start your own garden.

Materials and Prep

  • Seeds or seedlings of your choice
  • Garden tools (shovel, rake, watering can, etc.)
  • Gardening gloves
  • Soil and compost
  • Access to a sunny outdoor space or containers for indoor gardening
  • Water source
  • Access to gardening resources (books, websites, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of plant care and gardening techniques

Activities

  1. Research the benefits of gardening for physical and mental health. Write down at least three benefits and share them with your teacher or parent.

  2. Choose the type of plants you want to grow in your garden. Research their specific requirements for sunlight, water, and soil conditions.

  3. Prepare the soil by removing any weeds or debris. Add compost to enrich the soil with nutrients.

  4. Plant your chosen seeds or seedlings according to the instructions provided. Make sure to give them enough space to grow.

  5. Water your plants regularly, taking care not to overwater or underwater. Observe their growth and document any changes you notice.

  6. Harvest your crops when they are ready and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
