Materials and Prep

  • Sketchbook or notebook
  • Pencils, erasers, and colored pencils
  • Access to the internet
  • Optional: Any art supplies you have at home (paints, markers, etc.)
  • Optional: Any science-related books or resources you have at home

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Research and Choose: Spend some time researching different science museums online. Choose one that interests you the most and write down its name and location in your sketchbook.
  2. Artistic Interpretation: Create a visual representation of the science museum you chose. Use your sketchbook and any art supplies you have available. Be creative and think about how you can incorporate scientific elements into your artwork.
  3. Write a Reflection: In your sketchbook, write a reflection on why you find the intersection of science and art fascinating. Include any specific exhibits or experiences you are looking forward to at the science museum you chose.
  4. Share and Discuss: Share your artwork and reflection with a family member or friend. Discuss why you find practical arts and science museums interesting. Listen to their thoughts and opinions as well.
