Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to appreciate and analyze various forms of visual art, specifically focusing on the science museum as a source of inspiration.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
  • Access to a computer or tablet with internet

Prior knowledge of basic art concepts and familiarity with the science museum is helpful but not required.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing the concept of visual art and its various forms. Show examples of different art mediums such as paintings, sculptures, photography, and digital art.
  2. Research and explore the science museum online. Discuss the different exhibits and the role of art within the museum.
  3. Ask the student to choose their favorite exhibit from the science museum and create a drawing or painting inspired by it. Encourage them to pay attention to details and use their imagination.
  4. After completing their artwork, have the student explain their piece and share what they find fascinating about the exhibit they chose.
  5. Display the student's artwork in a designated area, creating a mini art gallery within your homeschool environment.
