Materials and Prep
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Blank paper
- A piece of your own writing to revise and edit
Before starting this lesson, make sure you have a piece of your own writing that you would like to revise and edit. It could be a story, a poem, or even an essay.
Activities
- Reviewing the Writing: Read through your piece of writing and make sure you understand what you have written. Pay attention to the overall organization and flow of your ideas.
- Revising for Content: Look for areas where you can improve your writing. Ask yourself questions like: Does the introduction grab the reader's attention? Are the main points clear? Are there any unnecessary or repetitive sentences? Make changes and additions as needed.
- Editing for Mechanics: Focus on the smaller details of your writing. Check for proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Make sure your sentences are clear and concise. Use your eraser to correct any mistakes you find.
- Seek Feedback: Share your revised and edited writing with a family member or friend. Ask them for their thoughts and suggestions. Consider their feedback and make any further improvements if necessary.
