Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create and use affirmations as a tool for positive self-talk and personal growth.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank paper or a notebook
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
  • Pencil or pen

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by explaining to the student what affirmations are and how they can be used to promote positive thinking and self-belief.

  2. Ask the student to think of three positive affirmations about themselves. Encourage them to focus on their strengths, abilities, and qualities they appreciate.

  3. Provide the student with the blank paper or notebook and instruct them to write down their affirmations. They can decorate the page with colors and drawings that represent positivity and happiness.

  4. Once the affirmations are written and decorated, encourage the student to read them out loud to themselves. Explain the importance of speaking affirmations with confidence and belief.

  5. Suggest that the student keep their affirmations somewhere visible, such as on their bedroom wall or in their school folder. This will serve as a reminder to practice positive self-talk regularly.

Third Grade Talking Points

  • "Affirmations are positive statements we say to ourselves to help us feel good and believe in ourselves."
  • "We can create our own affirmations that remind us of our strengths and the things we like about ourselves."
  • "Writing down our affirmations and decorating them with colors and drawings can make them even more special."
  • "When we read our affirmations out loud, it helps us believe in them and feel more confident."
  • "Keeping our affirmations somewhere we can see them every day can remind us to be positive and kind to ourselves."
