Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic geography concepts through engaging LEGO activities.

Materials and Prep

  • LEGO bricks (various sizes and colors)
  • World map or globe
  • Pen and paper

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson, as it is designed for beginners.

Activities

  1. Build a LEGO map:

Using LEGO bricks, have the student create a map of their own. They can use different colored bricks to represent different landforms such as mountains, rivers, and lakes. Encourage them to include LEGO structures to represent cities or landmarks.

  2. Locate countries:

Show the student a world map or globe and ask them to identify different countries. Have them use LEGO bricks to mark the countries they locate. This will help them understand the concept of continents and countries.

  3. Build a landmark:

Choose a famous landmark from a different country and ask the student to build a LEGO model of it. This activity will introduce them to different cultures and landmarks around the world.

  4. Write a postcard:

Ask the student to imagine they are visiting a country they learned about. Have them write a postcard describing their experience using LEGO-themed stationery. This activity will help them understand the concept of communication and geography.
