Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the life cycle of a frog and identify its different stages.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or tablet with internet access
  • Pen and paper
  • Printed frog life cycle diagram (optional)

Activities

  1. Start by watching a short video about the life cycle of a frog. Here is a link to a recommended video: Frog Life Cycle Video.

  2. After watching the video, draw and label the different stages of a frog's life cycle on a piece of paper. You can use the printed frog life cycle diagram as a reference if you have it.

  3. Discuss the different stages of the frog's life cycle with your parent or teacher. Talk about how a frog starts as an egg, then hatches into a tadpole, grows into a froglet, and finally becomes an adult frog.

  4. Take a virtual field trip to a frog pond or wetland. Use your computer or tablet to search for images or videos of frogs in their natural habitat. Observe how they move, what they eat, and how they interact with their environment.

  5. Wrap up the lesson by creating a frog life cycle poster. Use your drawings and any additional information you have learned to showcase the different stages of a frog's life. You can decorate it with colors and pictures of frogs.

Second Grade Talking Points

  • "Frogs go through different stages of life, just like humans do. Can you name some stages of human life?"
  • "A frog starts as an egg, which is laid in the water. Can you think of any other animals that lay eggs?"
  • "After the egg hatches, it becomes a tadpole. Tadpoles have a tail and live in the water. What do you think tadpoles eat?"
  • "As the tadpole grows, it starts to develop legs and loses its tail. This stage is called a froglet. Can you imagine how it feels for a tadpole to grow legs?"
  • "Finally, the froglet becomes an adult frog. Adult frogs can live on land and in water. Do you know how frogs breathe?"
