Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons/markers
- Harvest-themed picture books
- Harvest-related objects (e.g., fruits, vegetables, scarecrow, etc.)
No prior knowledge is necessary for this lesson.
Activities
- Read a harvest-themed picture book together and discuss the illustrations and story.
- Have the student draw their favorite part of the story or a harvest scene using the paper and crayons/markers.
- Introduce the harvest-related objects and discuss their characteristics (e.g., colors, shapes, textures).
- Encourage the student to sort the objects based on different attributes (e.g., fruits vs. vegetables, small vs. large).
- Ask the student to describe the taste, smell, and feel of a selected fruit or vegetable from the objects.
- Engage in a pretend play activity where the student acts as a farmer harvesting crops. Use the objects to enhance the play experience.
