Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and express different feelings through reading and discussion.
Materials and Prep
- A variety of children's books that explore different feelings
- Chart paper and markers
- Index cards
Activities
- Read Aloud: Choose a children's book that focuses on feelings, such as "The Way I Feel" by Janan Cain. Read the book aloud to the student, pausing to discuss the different emotions depicted in the story.
- Feelings Charades: Write different feelings on index cards (e.g., happy, sad, angry, scared) and place them face down. Take turns picking a card and acting out the feeling without speaking. The student can guess the feeling and explain why they think it matches the action.
- Feelings Collage: Provide magazines or printed pictures that show people expressing different emotions. Have the student cut out the pictures and create a collage that represents various feelings. Encourage them to label each emotion and discuss why they chose each picture.
