Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to engage in physical activities related to cars, improving their gross motor skills and coordination.
Materials and Prep
- Toy cars
- Open space for movement
- Cones or markers for creating a race track
- Optional: Traffic signs or road tape
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Warm-up: Start by stretching and moving different body parts like a car. Stretch your arms out like the car's side mirrors, rotate your waist like the car's steering wheel, and wiggle your legs like the car's wheels.
- Race Track: Set up a race track using cones or markers. Have the toddler drive their toy cars around the track, practicing their gross motor skills and coordination. Encourage them to move at different speeds, make turns, and avoid obstacles.
- Traffic Signs: If available, introduce traffic signs or road tape to create a more realistic driving experience. Teach the toddler about basic traffic signs such as stop, go, and yield. Use these signs to create simple scenarios where the toddler needs to follow the signs while driving their cars.
- Car Wash: Pretend to wash the toy cars by using a spray bottle filled with water and a soft cloth. Encourage the toddler to move their hands in circular motions as they "wash" the cars, helping to improve their fine motor skills.
Toddler Grade Talking Points
- "Today, we are going to have fun with cars and learn some cool things!"
- "Let's stretch and warm up our bodies just like a car stretches its parts before a race."
- "Now, we are going to drive our toy cars around a race track. Remember to steer and control the speed!"
- "Do you know what traffic signs are? They help cars know what to do on the road. Let's learn some basic ones!"
- "Time to wash our cars! We need to make sure they are shiny and clean, just like real cars."
