Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply basic arithmetic skills while having fun with your Baby Alive doll.
Materials and Prep
- Baby Alive doll
- Counting objects (e.g., small toys, buttons, or beads)
- Pen and paper
Before starting the lesson, make sure you are familiar with counting numbers from 1 to 10, and basic addition and subtraction within 10.
Activities
-
Counting Fun:
Ask your Baby Alive doll to sit with you. Take turns counting objects together. Start with 1 and go up to 10. For each number, touch one of the objects to help you count. Celebrate when you reach 10!
-
Addition Adventure:
Choose two counting objects and place them in front of your Baby Alive doll. Ask your doll to hold one of the objects and you hold the other. Now, count the total number of objects by adding them together. For example, if your doll holds 3 and you hold 4, count "3, 4, 5, 6, 7" to find the total of 7. Repeat this activity with different sets of objects.
-
Subtraction Story:
Create a story with your Baby Alive doll involving subtraction. For example, say that your doll has 8 cookies, but she ate 3. Ask your doll how many cookies she has left. Help her count backwards from 8 to 5 to find the answer. Repeat this activity with different scenarios.
First Grade Talking Points
