Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to engage in physical activities that promote gross motor skills development and understand the importance of staying active for a healthy lifestyle.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for physical activities
  • Soft balls or balloons
  • Music player or instrument
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes

Make sure to clear the activity area from any obstacles or hazards before starting the lesson.

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by playing some upbeat music and encourage your child to dance or march in place. Guide them to move their arms, legs, and body to the rhythm. This will help warm up their muscles and get them ready for physical activities.

  2. Ball Toss: Stand a few feet apart and gently toss a soft ball or balloon back and forth with your child. Encourage them to catch and throw the ball using their hands. This activity helps improve hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.

  3. Animal Walks: Pretend to be different animals and have your child imitate your movements. For example, you can crawl like a bear, hop like a bunny, or walk sideways like a crab. This activity promotes balance, coordination, and creativity.

  4. Obstacle Course: Set up a simple obstacle course using pillows, cushions, or other safe objects. Guide your child through the course, encouraging them to climb over, crawl under, and jump across the obstacles. This activity enhances agility, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills.

  5. Cool-down and Hydration: After the physical activities, it's important to cool down. Sit down with your child and do some gentle stretching exercises, like reaching for the toes or twisting the torso. Remind them to drink water to stay hydrated and replenish their energy.
