Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic health concepts related to beginner baking, including hygiene, nutrition, and safety.

  • Ingredients and utensils for the chosen recipe
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition concepts

Activities

  1. Introduction to Hygiene

    Explain to the student the importance of washing hands before handling food. Demonstrate proper hand-washing technique and have the student practice washing their hands thoroughly.

  2. Learning about Nutrition

    Discuss the importance of using nutritious ingredients in baking. Show the student different ingredients and explain their nutritional benefits. For example, talk about the importance of using whole wheat flour instead of refined flour for added fiber.

  3. Safe Baking Practices

    Teach the student about basic kitchen safety rules. Explain the importance of using oven mitts when handling hot trays, not touching hot surfaces, and being cautious around sharp utensils. Demonstrate and practice these safety measures together.

  4. Baking Together

    Guide the student through the process of baking the chosen recipe. Explain each step and allow them to participate as much as possible, while ensuring their safety. Emphasize the importance of following the recipe accurately and practicing patience while waiting for the baked goods to be ready.

  5. Enjoying the Baked Goods

    Once the baked goods are ready, discuss the importance of moderation and portion control. Encourage the student to savor a small portion of their creation and have a discussion about how they feel after enjoying a homemade treat.
