Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and read a list of sight words.

Materials and Prep

  • Sight word flashcards (create your own or use online resources)
  • Writing materials (pencil, crayons, markers, or chalk)
  • Blank paper or a whiteboard

Activities

  1. Introduce the sight words: Start by showing the sight word flashcards one by one. Say the word out loud and ask the student to repeat after you. Practice each word until the student feels comfortable.
  2. Word Hunt: Write the sight words randomly on a piece of paper or the whiteboard. Ask the student to find and circle each word as you call them out.
  3. Word Building: Using the flashcards, ask the student to spell each sight word by arranging the individual letter cards. Encourage them to say the letters out loud as they build the words.
  4. Word Art: Choose a few sight words and ask the student to write each word in different colors or styles. They can use crayons, markers, or chalk to make their word art visually appealing.
  5. Word Sentences: Create simple sentences using the sight words. Read the sentences aloud and ask the student to identify the sight words within them. Encourage them to read the sentences back to you.
