Activities
-
Research and discuss the importance of good posture while sewing. Have the student find information online or in books about the impact of posture on overall health and how to maintain good posture while sewing.
-
Engage in a warm-up activity before sewing. This can include stretching exercises, deep breathing, or a short walk to get the body moving and ready for physical activity.
-
Create a sewing project that incorporates movement. For example, have the student sew a drawstring bag or a simple garment that requires bending, reaching, and using different muscle groups.
-
Discuss the importance of breaks and rest periods while sewing. Teach the student about the risks of repetitive motion injuries and encourage them to take short breaks every 30 minutes to stretch, rest their eyes, or do other non-sewing activities.
-
End the lesson with a cool-down activity. This can include gentle stretching exercises or relaxation techniques to help the student wind down and relax after the physical activity.
