Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to recognize and spell basic car-related words.

Materials and Prep

  • Toy cars
  • Large whiteboard or paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Printed car-related flashcards (if available)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of spelling by showing the toddler a toy car and saying its name aloud, emphasizing the sounds of the letters.
  2. Write the name of the car on the whiteboard or paper, pointing to each letter as you say its sound.
  3. Ask the toddler to find the matching flashcard (if available) and place it next to the written word.
  4. Repeat this process with a few more car names, encouraging the toddler to participate in sounding out the letters and finding the correct flashcards.
  5. Play a game of "Car Spelling Race" by lining up several toy cars and asking the toddler to spell the names of the cars as they move them forward one by one.
  6. Encourage the toddler to practice spelling car-related words independently by drawing pictures of cars and labeling them with the correct spelling.
