Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to read and comprehend a travel-related passage, identify key details, and answer questions based on the text.

Materials and Prep

  • A travel-themed storybook
  • Writing materials (pencil, paper)
  • Internet access (optional, for additional research)

Activities

  1. Read the travel-themed storybook together.
  2. Choose a travel-themed storybook that interests the student. Read the book aloud, encouraging the student to follow along and engage in discussions about the setting, characters, and plot.

  3. Identify key details from the story.
  4. Ask the student to identify important details from the story, such as the main characters, the places they visit, and the activities they engage in during their travels. Write down these details on a piece of paper or a whiteboard.

  5. Discuss comprehension questions.
  6. Ask the student comprehension questions about the story, such as "What was the main character's favorite place they visited?" or "Why did the characters decide to go on a trip?". Encourage the student to provide detailed answers based on the information from the story.

  7. Write a travel journal entry.
  8. Have the student imagine they are going on a trip to a place they've always wanted to visit. Ask them to write a journal entry describing their travel experience, including details about the destination, the activities they would like to do, and why they are excited about the trip. Remind them to use proper sentence structure, punctuation, and descriptive language.

  9. Bonus activity: Research a real travel destination.
  10. If the student is interested, guide them in researching a real travel destination of their choice. Encourage them to find information about the location, its attractions, and any interesting facts they discover. They can create a mini report or a poster to share their findings.
