  • A notebook or paper for writing
  • A pencil or pen

Before starting the lesson, make sure your student is familiar with basic reading skills such as letter recognition and phonics.

  2. Show your student the recipe you have chosen and read it together. Encourage them to point out any familiar words or ingredients.
  3. Ask your student to identify the steps in the recipe. Write down the steps on a piece of paper or notebook as they say them out loud.
  4. Read each step of the recipe one by one, and have your student follow along with their finger as you read.
  5. Discuss any unfamiliar words or ingredients and explain their meanings. Encourage your student to ask questions if they don't understand something.
  6. Guide your student through the process of gathering the ingredients and following the steps of the recipe. Assist them as needed, but encourage independence.
