Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and locate different continents and oceans on a world map.

Materials and Prep

  • World map (can be printed or drawn)
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, etc.)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Prior knowledge: Basic understanding of colors and shapes.

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of continents and oceans by showing the world map to the student.
  2. Ask the student to identify and name the different continents and oceans on the map.
  3. Color the continents using different colors. Encourage the student to be creative and use their favorite colors.
  4. Cut out the continents and oceans from the map.
  5. Glue the cut-outs onto a separate piece of paper to create a collage.
  6. Discuss the characteristics of each continent and ocean, such as their size, location, and unique features.

  • "Continents are the big pieces of land on Earth. Can you point to the different continents on the map?"
  • "Oceans are the big bodies of water on Earth. Can you find and name the oceans on the map?"
  • "Let's color the continents together. You can use any colors you like. What color would you like to use for North America?"
  • "Great job! Now, let's carefully cut out the continents and oceans from the map."
  • "Now it's time to create our collage. We'll glue the cut-outs onto another paper to make it look nice."
  • "Each continent and ocean is special. Can you tell me something interesting about Africa?"
