Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and locate different continents and oceans on a world map.

Materials and Prep

  • World map (can be printed or drawn)
  • Coloring pencils or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Construction paper
  • Internet access (optional)

Activities

  1. Introduction to Continents and Oceans:

Show the world map to the student and explain that the world is divided into large pieces of land called continents and large bodies of water called oceans.

  2. Identifying Continents:

Using the world map, ask the student to help you identify and color each continent with a different color. You can provide hints and guide them through this process.

  3. Creating a Continents Collage:

Give the student construction paper and ask them to cut out the colored continents from the map. Then, instruct them to glue the continents onto the construction paper to create a collage.

  4. Discovering Oceans:

Explain the concept of oceans and their names. Show the student the oceans on the world map and discuss their locations. You can also use the internet to find pictures of different ocean animals and discuss their habitats.

  5. Review and Quiz:

Review the continents and oceans with the student by asking them questions and pointing to different locations on the map. You can also create a simple quiz by asking them to name the continents and oceans.
