Materials and Prep

  • Unicorn picture book
  • Whiteboard or large paper
  • Markers or crayons

Activities

  1. Read a Unicorn Picture Book: Start the lesson by reading a unicorn picture book together. Encourage the student to pay attention to the illustrations and listen to the story.
  2. Draw Your Own Unicorn: After reading the book, provide the student with a whiteboard or large paper and markers or crayons. Ask them to draw their own unicorn based on their imagination. Encourage them to include details like the horn, colorful mane, and sparkles.
  3. Describe Your Unicorn: Once the drawing is complete, ask the student to describe their unicorn using simple sentences. Help them with vocabulary and sentence structure if needed. Write down their description on the whiteboard or paper.
  4. Read the Description: Read the description of the student's unicorn out loud. Encourage the student to listen carefully and visualize their own creation as they hear the description.
  5. Compare and Discuss: Compare the student's drawing with the description. Ask questions like, "Did the description match your drawing?" and "What are some similarities and differences?" Discuss the importance of using descriptive words to communicate ideas.
