Materials and Prep
- A book about pumpkin patches
- A whiteboard or chart paper
- Markers or chalk
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have read the book and are familiar with the story.
Activities
- Introduce the topic of pumpkin patches by asking the student if they have ever been to one or seen pumpkins before. Discuss what they know about pumpkins and pumpkin patches.
- Read the book about pumpkin patches aloud to the student, pointing out the pictures and discussing the story as you go along.
- After reading the book, ask the student comprehension questions about the story. For example, "What color are pumpkins?" or "What do people do at a pumpkin patch?" Encourage the student to answer using complete sentences.
- Write key vocabulary words from the story on the whiteboard or chart paper. Have the student repeat each word after you and discuss their meanings.
- Create a simple drawing activity related to the story. Ask the student to draw their favorite part of the pumpkin patch or a pumpkin they would like to pick. Encourage them to use colors and details.
