Lesson Activities:

Introduction: A Visit to the Hundred Acre Wood (5 minutes)

Gather your materials. Sit with your student in a comfy reading spot. Say, "Guess what? Today we get to visit the Hundred Acre Wood! Do you know who lives there?" Introduce the character figures/cards one by one. "Look! It's Winnie the Pooh! What does Pooh love? (Honey!) And here's bouncy Tigger! And sweet Piglet! And gloomy Eeyore!" Let the student hold and interact with the figures briefly.

Activity 1: Story Time with Pooh (10-15 minutes)

Say, "Let's read a story about our friends!" Introduce the chosen Winnie the Pooh book. Point to the cover, read the title, and the author's name. Hold the book so the student can see the pictures clearly. Read the story aloud with expression, using different voices for characters if possible. Pause often to point at characters in the illustrations and ask simple questions like, "Who is that?" or "What is Pooh doing?" Encourage the student to turn the pages gently.

Activity 2: Character Hunt! (5 minutes)

After reading, lay out the character figures/cards. Ask, "Can you find Pooh Bear?" "Where is Piglet?" "Show me the character who likes to bounce!" Make it a fun game. You could even hide them slightly around the reading area for the student to find.

Activity 3: Word Detective - Finding 'Pooh' (5 minutes)

Open the book again. Say, "Let's be word detectives! We are looking for Pooh's name. It starts like P-p-p." Point out the word 'Pooh' whenever it appears clearly on a page. Write 'Pooh' in large letters on the paper/whiteboard. You can also write the student's name and point out the letters they share or recognize.

Activity 4: Draw Your Friend (10 minutes)

Say, "Who was your favorite friend we read about today?" Ask the student to draw their favorite Winnie the Pooh character or a scene from the story using the paper and crayons/markers. Talk about their drawing as they create it. "Oh, you're drawing Tigger! Look at his stripes!"

Conclusion: Goodbye from the Woods (2-3 minutes)

Review the characters one last time using the figures/cards or the student's drawing. "We had so much fun visiting Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore today!" Give praise for listening well and participating. Optional: If using the 'Hunny' pot, pretend Pooh left it and offer a small, honey-themed snack like graham crackers.
