Objective

By the end of this lesson, the homeschool student will be able to analyze and interpret a passage from a prodigy book, and demonstrate comprehension through engaging activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Prodigy book of choice
  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or loose-leaf paper
  • Internet access (optional)

Prior knowledge of basic reading comprehension strategies is recommended.

Activities

  1. Read a chapter or passage from the prodigy book aloud or independently.

  2. Identify and underline key details, important events, and interesting vocabulary words in the passage.

  3. Write a short summary of the passage, highlighting the main ideas and supporting details.

  4. Create a character profile for one of the characters in the passage, including their traits, motivations, and actions.

  5. Write a letter to the author of the prodigy book, sharing thoughts and reactions to the passage.

  6. (Optional) Research the author and find additional information about their writing style or inspirations.
