Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and say the months and seasons in Spanish.

Materials and Prep

  • Whiteboard or paper
  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Printed flashcards of the months and seasons in Spanish
  • Access to a computer or device with internet for online resources (optional)

Activities

  1. Introduction: Begin by discussing the concept of months and seasons in Spanish. Show the printed flashcards and explain that you will be learning how to say them in Spanish.
  2. Month Match-Up: Write the names of the months in Spanish on the whiteboard or paper, leaving space next to each one. Give the student the printed flashcards and have them match the English names of the months to their Spanish counterparts. Encourage them to say the Spanish names out loud as they make the matches.
  3. Season Sort: Divide the whiteboard or paper into two columns: "Invierno" (Winter) and "Verano" (Summer). Have the student sort the printed flashcards into the appropriate columns based on the corresponding season. Again, encourage them to say the Spanish names as they sort.
  4. Memory Game: Create a memory game by making duplicate flashcards of the months and seasons in Spanish. Shuffle the cards and lay them face down on a table or the floor. Take turns flipping two cards at a time, trying to find matches. When a match is made, say the Spanish name of the month or season out loud.
  5. Online Practice (optional): If you have access to a computer or device with internet, explore online resources that provide interactive games or quizzes for learning the months and seasons in Spanish. Play a few games together to reinforce the vocabulary.
