Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to recognize and identify different types of cars, improve reading skills through car-related activities, and develop a love for reading.
Materials and Prep
- Pictures or toy cars of various types (sedan, truck, sports car, etc.)
- Car-themed books or storybooks with car-related characters
- Construction paper and crayons/markers
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
Activities
- Car Recognition Game: Show the toddler pictures or toy cars of different types and ask them to identify and name each one. Encourage them to describe the cars using simple words like "big," "small," "fast," or "colorful."
- Car-themed Storytime: Read car-related books or storybooks with car characters to the toddler. Pause at certain points to ask questions about the story or engage in discussions about the pictures.
- Create a Car Collage: Provide the toddler with construction paper, crayons/markers, scissors, and glue/tape. Ask them to draw or cut out pictures of cars from magazines or printouts, and then help them arrange and glue/tape the pictures onto the construction paper to create a car collage.
- Car Racing Phonics: Write down or print out simple words related to cars (e.g., "car," "race," "wheels," "drive") and cut them into individual letters. Scatter the letters around the room and ask the toddler to find the letters and arrange them to form the given words. Encourage them to say the sounds of each letter as they find and place them.
