Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to engage in physical activities related to cars, improving their gross motor skills and coordination.

Materials and Prep

  • Toy cars
  • Open space for movement
  • Cones or markers (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Car Race: Set up a starting line and a finish line using cones or markers if available. Encourage the toddler to race their toy cars from the starting line to the finish line.
  2. Car Obstacle Course: Create a simple obstacle course using pillows, cushions, or other soft objects. The toddler can drive their cars around the obstacles, practicing maneuvering and coordination.
  3. Car Wash: Fill a basin or bucket with soapy water. Provide the toddler with a sponge or cloth and let them "wash" their toy cars. This activity promotes hand-eye coordination and sensory exploration.
  4. Car Parade: Encourage the toddler to line up their toy cars and organize a parade. They can walk alongside the cars, imitating the sounds and movements of different vehicles.

Toddler Grade Talking Points

  • "Cars are fun to play with. We can pretend to be drivers and race our cars."
  • "We can make our own race track using cones or markers. Let's see how fast our cars can go!"
  • "Driving through an obstacle course helps us practice steering and avoiding obstacles, just like real drivers do."
  • "Washing our toy cars is like giving them a bath. It's important to keep them clean and shiny."
  • "Let's organize a car parade! We can pretend to be different vehicles and show off our cars to others."
