Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to explore the connection between music and dogs, and create a musical composition inspired by dogs.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencils
- Access to a computer or tablet with internet
- Speakers or headphones
- Optional: Musical instruments (if available)
Activities
- Introduce the topic by discussing the role of music in our lives and how it can evoke different emotions.
- Ask the student to think about how music can be used to represent different animals or creatures.
- Using a computer or tablet, search for songs or compositions that are inspired by dogs. Listen to a few examples together and discuss how the music captures the essence of dogs.
- Encourage the student to brainstorm their own musical ideas inspired by dogs. They can think about the sounds, movements, and characteristics of dogs to guide their composition.
- If musical instruments are available, encourage the student to experiment with creating sounds that mimic dog-related elements (e.g., barking, wagging tail, running). If instruments are not available, they can use their voice or body percussion to create sounds.
- Provide the student with paper and pencils to write down their musical ideas or draw a visual representation of their composition.
- Once the student has completed their composition, ask them to perform it for you or record it using a device.
- Discuss the student's composition, highlighting the elements that reflect the characteristics of dogs. Encourage them to explain their creative choices.
