Materials and Prep

  • Pencil and paper
  • Halloween-themed arithmetic worksheets (can be printed or handwritten)
  • Calculator (optional)

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Trick or Treat Word Problems

Read through a set of Halloween-themed word problems and solve them using arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  2. Activity 2: Spooky Number Patterns

Identify and complete number patterns related to Halloween. Use arithmetic operations to find the missing numbers in the pattern.

  3. Activity 3: Candy Counting

Estimate and count the number of candies in a jar using arithmetic skills. Practice addition and subtraction to adjust the estimate as more information is given.

  4. Activity 4: Halloween Math Art

Create Halloween-themed art using arithmetic operations. For example, draw a pumpkin by plotting coordinates on a grid or create a symmetrical bat using multiplication and reflection.

  • "Word problems involve real-life scenarios and require us to use arithmetic skills to solve them."
  • "Number patterns are sequences of numbers that follow a certain rule. We can use arithmetic operations to find the missing numbers in a pattern."
  • "Estimation is making an educated guess. We can use arithmetic to estimate quantities or adjust our estimate as we get more information."
