Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a custom skateboard design using practical arts techniques.
Materials and Prep
- Blank skateboard deck
- Art supplies (paint, markers, colored pencils, etc.)
- Protective gloves and apron
- Reference materials (skateboarding magazines, online images, etc.)
- Clear sealant spray
Before starting the lesson, the student should have a basic understanding of skateboarding and its culture.
Activities
- Research and Inspiration: Encourage the student to explore different skateboard designs and gather inspiration from various sources such as skateboarding magazines or online images. They should take note of the elements they like and want to incorporate into their own design.
- Design Planning: Provide the student with a blank skateboard deck and art supplies. Instruct them to sketch out their design ideas on paper first, considering the placement of different elements and the overall composition.
- Creating the Design: Once the design is finalized, guide the student in transferring it onto the skateboard deck. They can use paint, markers, colored pencils, or any other suitable art supplies to bring their design to life.
- Finishing Touches: After the design is complete, remind the student to let it dry thoroughly. Once dry, they can apply a clear sealant spray to protect the design and make it more durable.
- Showcasing the Design: Encourage the student to proudly display their custom skateboard design, either by hanging it on a wall or using it for skateboarding. They can also document their design through photographs or videos to share with others.
