Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to solve simple arithmetic puzzles and develop critical thinking skills.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required.
Activities
-
Start by drawing a simple puzzle on a piece of paper. For example, you can draw three circles and write a number in each circle. Ask the student to find the missing number by adding the two given numbers together.
-
Move on to more complex puzzles. Draw a grid with numbers in some of the cells, leaving others blank. Ask the student to fill in the missing numbers by using addition or subtraction.
-
Encourage the student to create their own puzzles. They can draw a picture or write a number sequence, and then ask a family member or friend to solve it.
