Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to solve simple arithmetic puzzles and develop critical thinking skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or crayons

No prior knowledge or preparation is required.

Activities

  1. Start by drawing a simple puzzle on a piece of paper. For example, you can draw three circles and write a number in each circle. Ask the student to find the missing number by adding the two given numbers together.

  2. Move on to more complex puzzles. Draw a grid with numbers in some of the cells, leaving others blank. Ask the student to fill in the missing numbers by using addition or subtraction.

  3. Encourage the student to create their own puzzles. They can draw a picture or write a number sequence, and then ask a family member or friend to solve it.
