Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a mindfulness jar and use it as a tool for practicing mindfulness.
Materials and Prep
- A clear jar or bottle with a lid
- Water
- Glitter or sequins
- Food coloring (optional)
- Stickers or decorations for the jar (optional)
- A quiet space to work in
Activities
- Prepare the mindfulness jar by filling the clear jar or bottle with water, leaving some space at the top.
- Add a few drops of food coloring (optional) to make the water more visually appealing.
- Add glitter or sequins to the jar. These will represent your thoughts and emotions.
- Tightly seal the lid and shake the jar gently. Watch as the glitter or sequins swirl around and slowly settle at the bottom.
- Find a quiet and comfortable spot to sit with your mindfulness jar.
- Hold the jar in your hands and take a few deep breaths, focusing on the sensation of your breath entering and leaving your body.
- As you continue to breathe, observe the glitter or sequins inside the jar. Notice how they move and settle, just like your thoughts and emotions.
- Allow yourself to be fully present in the moment, observing the jar and your breath. Practice being mindful and aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment.
- Whenever you feel overwhelmed or need a moment of calm, take out your mindfulness jar and spend a few minutes observing it.
